From what I can see in the article, an invention doesn't necessarily can become innovation. It takes a great efforts and times for something old to become something new. The innovator that failed, they usually comes with a lots of idea and would like to put all of it into one innovation and from my opinion, this is one of the reason why they failed.
I would like to share the old picture of military weapon that failed to fulfilling its purpose.

Scooter-Mounted-Cannon
The weapon ( or motorcycle? ) in the picture above is called scooter-mounted-cannon. The idea comes from the French military when they lack of money to provide more advanced equipment. The scooter-mounted cannon was a scooter like vehicle that held a 75 mm cannon. The vehicle was mainly used by the military during the 1950s. However, it’s safe to say that this innovation did not last long, as what we can see in the picture, it did not give any sort of protection to the rider.
